Tribeca Film Institute at The New School
presents
Thomas Allen Harris’
special workshop
“In Focus: Telling African American Stories with Film & Photography”
Join us for an evening of Cinema & Social Justice as award winning filmmaker, journalist and educator, Thomas Allen Harris, shares his dynamic interactive presentation on how he uses the “personal photo archive” as a story-telling tool in his films. Harris will also discuss the challenges and rewards of running his Film, Television, and Multimedia company, Chimpanzee Productions Inc, which he started in 1992 and has become one of the leading producers of innovative multicultural content. Harris will screen selections from his diverse media portfolio including excerpts from his films “Twelve Disciples of Nelson Mandela” and “E Minha Cara/That’s My Face”, clips from the PBS documentary “Through a Lens Darkly: Black Photographers and the Emergence of a People” (currently in post-production), and webisodes from the “Digital Diaspora Family Reunion” Roadshow series, in which people share stories from their family photo albums.
Audience members will have an opportunity to ask questions and share ideas about how photography can be used to effect social change. Learn more about Thomas Allen Harris and Chimpanzee Productions.
