Thomas Allen Harris – Artist Talk @ Brooklyn College – Thursday

Brooklyn College Community Partnership (BCCP) is pleased to host the Flatbush Brooklyn edition of the Digital Diaspora Family Reunion (DDFR) Roadshow this fall at the Brooklyn College Campus. The Digital Diaspora Roadshow will bring together students, staff, alumni, faculty and the local community to share stories contained in their family photographs during a week-long multimedia ‘roadshow’ community photo-sharing event created by filmmaker, journalist and educator, Thomas Allen Harris, and funded by the Rockefeller Foundation NYC Cultural Innovation Fund.

The Brooklyn College “DDFR Roadshow” will kick-off with a very special presentation by Thomas Allen Harris on Thursday, September 27th, 12:15pm at the Woody Tanger Auditorium on the first floor of the Brooklyn College Library.

Brooklyn College Community Partnership and the DDFR Team invite you to bring your friends and family along with your family’s photos to share share your rich family history with the Brooklyn College community.

Developed by award-winning filmmaker Thomas Allen Harris, DDFR is a photo archiving project that uncovers the stories and dialogues around those old family photos hidden away in shoeboxes and attics across America.

During his special Brooklyn College “Artist Talk” Thomas Allen Harris, will share his dynamic interactive presentation on how he uses the “personal photo archive” as a story-telling tool in his films. Harris will also discuss the challenges and rewards of running his Film, Television, and Multimedia company, Chimpanzee Productions Inc, which he started in 1992 and has become one of the leading producers of innovative multicultural content. Harris will screen selections from his diverse media portfolio including excerpts from his films “Twelve Disciples of Nelson Mandela” and “E Minha Cara/That’s My Face”, clips from the PBS documentary “Through a Lens Darkly: Black Photographers and the Emergence of a People” (currently in post-production), and webisodes from the “Digital Diaspora Family Reunion” Roadshow series, in which people share stories from their family photo albums.
