Lesson Overview

Students will create multimedia/media projects with camera phones, digital cameras, traditional cameras or existing video/film equipment available at school. Final projects will demonstrate how students learned to document subjects relevant to historical themes by using their family photographs in conjunction with oral histories obtained from family interviews. This course of work is unique as it requires students to use current readily available technology tools along with established research practices. The resulting media projects will preserve not just an important piece of their family history, but will also contribute to their collective understanding of American history as reflected in the lived experiences of regular people as well.
